Good for BigQuery, billing confusing

I used BigQuery for a data analysis task, and it performed really well, very fast for the scale I needed. Setting up the datasets and queries was intuitive enough after a quick look at the docs. My main gripe is the billing. While the initial free tier is great, understanding the full cost model for BigQuery, especially with all the different components and operations, can be a bit of a headache. I mean, I eventually figured it out, but it wasn't as transparent as I would have liked. The billing alerts helped, but it still felt like I had to monitor it closely. Delivery of services themselves was instant, as expected.

Reliable Compute Engine

I've used Google Cloud a few times now, mainly for Compute Engine instances. This last time I spun up a new VM for a client project, and as usual, it was straightforward. The performance was consistent with my previous experiences, no surprises there, which is what I look for. It's why I keep coming back for new projects; I know what I'm getting. What happens when my free trial credits run out on Google Cloud? Does everything just stop working?

Once your credits are gone, your resources will stop if you haven't set up actual billing. You usually get warnings before that happens though, so you can decide to continue with paid billing.

They usually send you a bunch of emails as you get close to running out or the trial period ending. You then have to explicitly upgrade to a paid account if you want to keep using the services. Otherwise, they pause or stop everything.

You just need to link a billing account, but they won't charge you until the credits run out or the trial period ends. It's in the Cloud Console settings somewhere, I think.

Promo codes usually go in the billing section, in the Cloud Console, after you've set up your account. It's not really during the initial signup flow.

Yes, they do. If you provisioned a VM or a database, even if it's not doing much, you're paying for the compute and storage resources it's consuming. Gotta delete what you don't use.
